As an interpreter in training I think about this almost everyday. How can we combine language and technology in way that is relevant and practical for the future? I haven’t found the answer to that question yet.

I think teaching languages (which most language enthusiasts tend to gravitate toward) is going to be the first job heavily impacted by automation and AI. Translation and interpretation won’t be long after that.

Whatever the industry comes up with, we need to start thinking about how to implement it sooner than later.
